Muslim leaders are becoming increasingly visible in the news, but Pope Benedict XVI. remained the most often mentioned religious leader in TV news worldwide in 2009. This shows the latest analysis by the Zurich based research institute MEDIA TENOR. "As in other fields of media coverage, reporting is strongly focused on a small number of protagonists", explains Roland Schatz, founder and President of MEDIA TENOR International. "For a long time, Muslim leaders have shunned the media - this contributed to the negative media coverage of Islam, as only critical voices were quoted by the journalists". In 2009, Muslim leaders have opened up to journalists, which gives them at least an opportunity to voice their own view of Islam. r.bielik@mediatenor.ch none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=269 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Copenhagen not yet a big deal in US media http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=268 Zurich, 4.12.2009: The American TV-news showed little interest in climate issues in the eve of the Copenhagen Climate Summit COP 15. The coverage of climate change showed clear differences between the American and the European TV news.. While the German and the British news broadcasters increased the reporting on climate issues in October and November significantly, no similar effect was recognizable in the most important network newscasts in the United States. r.bielik@mediatenor.ch none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=268 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Minaret Ban Puts Switzerland at Risk http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=267 Zurich. Even during the peak time before referendum on a ban on building minarets in Switzerland, the main evening news of Swiss TV DRS and the Rundschau reported about Islam primarily in the context of terrorism and international conflict. This shows the latest study by the Zurich-based research institute MEDIA TENOR International. "The stereotyped news permitted the public only in a limited way to form its own opinion about the everyday life of the 400,000 Muslims in Switzerland", explains Roland Schatz, founder and President of MEDIA TENOR. The tone of the reports about Islam was critical on account of this news selection. Representatives of Islam were only quoted infrequently. "With regard to these facts, the outcome of the poll does not surprise", concludes Schatz. z.beluska@mediatenor.com none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=267 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=266 t.mille@mediatenor.de none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=266 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Obamaīs Media Image supports Nobel prize - but not in US! http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=265 Barack Obamaīs 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was based on &quothis extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples&quot. Media Tenorīs analysis of President Obamaīs image on foreign policy shows that this is truly the case when it comes to Obamaīs image in world media markets - but with one big exception - inside the US. z.beluska@mediatenor.com none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=265 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Transatlantic Divide 2009 - US and German Media do Foster a Better Understanding http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=264 Berlin, September 25th, 2009. Despite President Barack Obama becoming the favorite of German TV news, the overall coverage of the US has not really improved. Stereotypes shape the news selection on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This is shown by the latest study of the research institute Media Tenor. The long-time analysis examined day after day, how the opinion-leading main evening TV news in Germany and the US portrayed the other country. "While at the beginning of the new Millennium US news mirrored the proverbial American optimism, a bleak outlook now reigns in both countries", Roland Schatz, founder and editor-in-chief of Media Tenor said on a joint discussion round of CNN, Media Tenor, the Atlantic Bride and the ESMT European School for Management and Technologies in Berlin. daniel.kormanec@centrum.cz none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=264 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Media see SPD as winner of TV Debate http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=263 Zurich, September 21, 2009. The much hyped TV duel of the two German candidates for the chancellorship Angela Merkel (CDU) and Frank-Walter Steinmeier (SPD) has disappointed the media, but both contenders boosted their support in the electorate. This is the result of the latest survey by five polling institutes. While the journalists rated the duel as a draw in gen-eral, they emphasized on the other hand that Steinmeier managed to catch up in the opinion of the yet undecided voters. The continuous analysis of the opinion-leading outlets Bild, Bild am Sonntag and the TV news by the Zurich based institute Media Tenor accordingly shows a slight advantage for the challenger as well. z.beluska@mediatenor.com none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=263 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters TV News Remains Suspicious about Muslims http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=262 London, September 17th, 2009. The analysis of Media Tenor shows, that the court case, which ended 2005 in Jacksonīs favor, remained the last issue for which he managed to get the attention of the network news broadcasts. Neither the 25th anniversary of Jacksons "Thriller" - the biggest selling album in the history of recorded music - nor the planned comeback concerts for 2009 managed to get Jackson back into the main news. z.beluska@mediatenor.com none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=260 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters Grand Mufti calls for increased preaching of interreligious understanding http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=259 CAIRO: HE Sheikh Ali Gomaa the Grand Mufti of Egypt, and Co-Chair of the C-1 World Dialogue called upon Imams, preachers and ministers of the mosques and churches in Egypt and the Arab Islamic world to fight intolerance in their sermons and personal contacts. It is important to explore and establish the factors that are shaping the course of Muslim-West relations, how opinions are changing over time and why." z.beluska@mediatenor.com none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=258 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters EU Elections - will the voter turnout reflect the media apathy? http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=257 Zurich, June 4, 2009: Today the Netherlands and the UK are the first two countries to go to the polls for the 4-7 June European Parliament Elections, with most of the 27 member states following on Sunday. t.mille@mediatenor.de none http://www.mediatenor.com/newsletters.php?id_news=257 Media Tenor EN - Newsletters
