New York, November 12, 2010. The results of the midterms on November 2 were in line with the media trends highlighted by Media Tenor during the election season. Policy-focused media coverage on the economy, healthcare and other domestic concerns continued to hurt the Democrats through the election and allowed the Republicans, with their more neutral ratings, to gain control of the House.
This power shift catapulted John Boehner to increased prominence with a strongly positive rating, although this took a slight dip in the election´s aftermath.
President Obama´s media image, meanwhile, did not move up or down in the wake of the election, but remained at its negative levels, even as his coverage tone shifted on individual networks, with some being more critical after the vote and some reducing their negative coverage. Positive coverage for the President was, however, hard to find, and Media Tenor anticipates a drop in his approval ratings.
